The History
In 2005 the National Slam of Canada, presented Sheri-D Wilson with ‘The Poet of Honour Award,’ for her work as a Spoken Word Artist.
Inspired by the award, in February 2006, Sheri-D Wilson (Calgary Spoken Word Society) launched the monthly Calgary Poetry Slam, giving up-and-coming poets the opportunity to perform their art. This led to the creation of the 1st Calgary Slam Team, which traveled to Toronto in October 2006 to compete in the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word.
Sheri-D Wilson was Calgary Slam-Master 2006-2012, and coach of the Slam Team 2006-2016.
In 2012 Sheri-D invited several artists to join her, and the Ink Spot Collective emerged. The Ink Spot Collective ran the Calgary Poetry Slam from 2012 until July of 2018. In 2017 Sheri-D Wilson left the collective to focus in one new projects.
